properties you want to collect and report (all WMI classes and properties

HOW DOES DESKTOP AUDITOR WORK??
There are two components to Desktop Auditor - the Auditor Engine and the
Reporter.
- The Auditor Engine is installed on any PC or server anywhere on the domain.
Using WMI , it gathers and updates information on every computer in the domain (or selected domain subset) and posts the
information to a database.
- The Reporter is installed on the manager/administrator's PC, and any number
of other desktops on the domain, as required, so that anyone who needs it
has access to accurate, up-to-date network inventory information.
WHAT VERSIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
Desktop Auditor is available in two versions, Standard and
Professional.
Desktop Auditor Standard gathers standard, pre-defined
network inventory information,
including information about installed software, identification information, hardware details and configuration
information.
Desktop Auditor Professional provides all the capability of the standard version and, in addition, allows
the user to define the network inventory data to be collected and to design custom reports. The Professional version also provides
change reporting - everything that has changed since a previous known status or
snapshot.
Screenshots from Desktop Auditor Standard and
Professional are a good way to see the capabilities of both products and the
options available.
HOW ARE REPORTS PRESENTED?
Desktop Auditor Professional reports are presented in a browser window, providing hypertext capability, drill-down for report detail,
etc. Every report also has an "Export to Excel" button.
Desktop Auditor Standard presents reports as
an Excel spreadsheet, providing all the power of Excel for further
processing, graphing, presentation or export to other applications.
Reports can be printed, saved, archived or exported to other applications.
DOES DESKTOP AUDITOR REQUIRE CLIENTS
OR AGENTS?
Desktop Auditor does not require the installation of clients
or agents on
the target machines, nor does it require that a directory service (like Active Directory) be
installed (though of course it works with Active Directory, if it is installed).
