About WMI
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is Microsoft's
implementation of WBEM (Web-Based Enterprise Management), the
industry standard for accessing computer management information.
WMI uses the Common Information Model (CIM) industry standard to
represent systems, applications, networks, devices, and other
managed components. You can use WMI to automate administrative
tasks in an enterprise environment.

Application Note - Windows SP, Service Pack 2 - Remote
Administration Enable
The default installation of Windows XP, Service Pack 2
automatically enables the Windows Firewall. This is an advantage
in one sense and a problem in another. It's an advantage because,
in its default configuration, the firewall allows no outside
communication to the client. Of course, it's a disadvantage for
the same reason – any application (including Desktop Auditor) that needs to communicate by
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) with the remote machines will be
prevented from doing so by the firewall. This application note
details how to allow Desktop Auditor to communicate with WinXP nodes
with Service Pack 2 installed.
